Over the last year, Google has been under attack for content on YouTube that targets kids but is not kid-friendly. Now Google has announced that it will be releasing a YouTube Kids website as a walled garden of kid-friendly content. In the past, you could also access YouTube kids by an app on a very limited number of devices. Now Google has announced plans to launch YouTube Kids as a website that will let you stream YouTube kids just like you would on YouTube.com.
“We built YouTube Kids to create a safer environment for kids to explore their interests and curiosity, while giving parents the tools to customize the experience for their kids. We continue to improve the app based on feedback from parents and experts, and have two updates to share today!” Google said in a statement on its website.
YouTube will also be rolling out new age groups to let parents limit the content available to their kids. With the new age groups in YouTube Kids Google now lets parents have even more limitations on what their kids watch in YouTube Kids. Here are the new age groups parents will find on YouTube Kids:
Preschool (ages 4 & under) is designed to allow kids to watch videos that promote creativity, playfulness, learning, & exploration.
Younger (ages 5-7) is designed to allow kids to explore their interests and search for a wide variety of topics, including songs, cartoons, crafts, & more.
Older (ages 8-12) is designed to allow kids with growing independence to search & explore additional music videos, gaming, family vlogs, science, and more.
