Spidey is coming back to the big screen, and Sony and Walt Disney Studio’s Marvel are both on board. This is big news after the breakdown of Sony’s deal with Disney left fans to believe this was the end of Spider-Man’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and ruled out the possibility of any new Spider-Man films available for Disney+.
Prior to this, fans started a #SaveSpiderMan campaign and memes inevitably circulated expressing disappointment in the breakup. But to comic fan’s delight, the third installment, Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” Marvel Producer Kevin Feige said in a statement. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Before things were mended, any new Spider-Man movies would have been Sony only, meaning Spider-man wouldn’t make any crossovers into the MCU with the Avengers gang. This is also big news for Disney+ subscribers, as now the movie could be included in Disney+ streaming library after it premiers in theaters.
With the newly The original deal between Sony and Marvel was ended over money disagreements, but they must have come to some understanding because Tom Holland will be back in theater’s as Spider-Man, bridging the gap between the Marvel and Sony universes.
